WISE COUNTY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
OCTOBER 2010
Administrators Report
What a thrilling time to be part of WCCS! The excitement and anticipation of our new facility, the challenge of coexistence during the construction at our present location, and all the while continuing to provide Christ centered academic excellence to our students. We Praise the Lord, because with His blessings we are succeeding! This is evident, in that in the midst of all of this, WCCS has once again become an accredited institution! Through the hard work of our faculty and staff the National Association of Private Schools has recognized and awarded WCCS with accreditation as a school of excellence. This is a tremendous blessing and I thank the Lord for everyone’s efforts to obtain this milestone. God’s hand continues to be on the ministry of WCCS and we are so excited for our future. Please continue to pray for His guidance, blessing and provision as we continue to strive to be the best for His Glory!
Brother Gary
2nd Annual “Project 100” Golf Tournament
Everyone at WCCS wants to thank Brother Kevin Sturgill, Jim Couch, Buchanan Pump Service and all of our sponsors who helped make our 2nd Annual Golf Tournament a great success! Twenty teams gathered at Raven Rock, in Jenkins, Ky. for a great day of Golf and fellowship. The fist place trophies went to Riverview Pentecostal Church for flight one, and the Boone/Couch team for flight two. Everyone had a great day and $4803.00 was raised for WCCS! Great job everyone!
New Building Progress
Work is proceeding on the new facility. The roof is going on and we should see faster progress from this point on. Due to a later start than we had hoped our projected time of completion will be late February or early March. Continue to pray for God’s blessing on the continued work.
PTF UPDATE
This is an exciting time for our beloved WCCS! Progress on our new school continues and we are so blessed to have such a wonderful group of dedicated and hard working teachers educating our children. They sacrificially give of themselves for the students and we thank God for them. This year the PTF wants to do all we can to support WCCS financially. With the school facing a deficit we’re asking our school family to unite and help in the various fundraising activities. Most of all we ask you to PRAY! Pray for our school! Pray for our teachers! Pray for our community to support this great school. Through our prayers God can and will do great and mighty things for WCCS! We will be having a short PTF meeting October 25 at 6:30 p.m. The topic will be the Thanksgiving carry out and eat in lunches and cake auction. These are two of the PTF’s biggest events and we need your help. We look forward to seeing you there!
SHOE BOXES
The WCCS Beta Club will once again be sponsoring our school as a shoebox collection point for Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan’s Purse. This has been a wonderful project for our club as they have collected over 7800 shoeboxes during the past 5 years. We urge everyone to participate in this special opportunity to share Christ and Christmas with needy children throughout the world through a simple shoebox gift. Please contact Mrs. Hill or any Beta member for more information.
2010 LADY EAGLES VOLLEYBALL
The 2010-11 season of Lady Eagles volleyball had the best year anyone can remember as far as a winning record goes. With only nine players full practices were impossible. First year Coach Donnie Henry had to find resources and drills to fit the needs of the team. Senior co-captains Elizabeth Hill and Laura Couch led a group of talented, hungry girls in spirited practices all season, resulting in an unprecedented learning curve for the team. The skills learned in practice became wins on the court. The Lady Eagles ended the season with an 8-5 record. Four of the five losses came at the hands of the KACHEA Wildcats of Kingsport, but even these were, for the most part, closely contested matches.
The final weekend of the season our team traveled to Bristol for the First Annual Tennessee Avenue Volleyball Tournament. We faced KACHEA in the first game, losing 1-3. This loss placed us in the losers bracket against the Titans of TEACH. Our team clawed their way out of this bracket by taking the Titans in four sets and Tennessee Avenue in three. At 3:30 Saturday afternoon the Eagles faced our third match in seven hours – this time for the championship against KACHEA. We put up a valiant effort, but did not have anything left for the Wildcats. We lost in three straight sets to come in second in the tournament, but the sizeable contingent of fans from Wise were proud of our girls’ attitude and effort.
Congratulations to the Lady Eagles for a remarkable year!
